Remove.bg Brings 1-Click Background Removal to Photoshop

Remove.bg is a popular web app that can cut subjects out of backgrounds in photos in just seconds without any input from the user. After receiving quite a bit of press coverage in late 2018, the app just announced a new free Photoshop plugin that provides one-click background removal.

“It has never been easier to cleanly remove the background from an image than with remove.bg, but up until now using it from Photoshop involved several steps – and that’s clearly too many!” the website writes. “With remove.bg for Adobe Photoshop you can now remove the background from any photo directly within Photoshop with a single click.”

The plugin lets you add the isolated subject of your photo as a new layer. It can also provide a layer mask for easy corrections and adjustments.

Here are some official images showing what the plugin can do:

One caveat is that since the plugin uses the Remove.bg API, you’ll need to sign up for an API key through the website and be connected to the Internet while using it. You’ll be able to do 50 background removals in a small size (625×400, or 0.25 megapixels) through the plugin every month for free (and unlimited removals through the website at that size). If you work with larger volumes or higher resolutions (up to 4000×2500, or 10 megapixels), you’ll need to buy credits.

To get started with the new Remove.bg Photoshop plugin, you can download it for free over at Adobe Exchange.
